Burlwood Brushpot (bitong)

£23,000

Irregularly shaped cylindrical burlwood brushpot with small circular plug to the base. The vessel is formed from a hollowed section of burlwood, the undulating outer edges covered with large knots, protrusions and a single perforation at the lower section. The rim of the vessel is irregularly shaped and is partially arved with vertical grooves on the interior. The fine-grained burlwood, to which a layer of lacquer has been applied, has a rich reddish tone shading to a pale honey colour on the knots.
