Northern Song - Jin period, 12th century This vase from the Cizhou kilns in Hebei province is remarkable for its bright leaf-green glaze over the black slip-painted peony motifs. It has been twice fired – once fired in the biscuit after having been painted with peonies and again at a lower temperature once the green lead glaze had been applied all over.
