Rectangular Huanghuali Table
Late Ming dynasty, 17th century
This table is notable for its use of a rare construction in which the deep waist is tongue-and-grooved into the square posts at the top of each leg. The square-section giant’s arm braces provide additional support on the underside of the table, which retains considerable traces of the original lacquer coating.
